Definium Therapeutics said Monday that its LSD-based therapy helped patients with anxiety in a second late-stage clinical trial, positioning the company to seek what would be the first regulatory approval of a drug for anxiety.
In the 12-week trial, patients taking a 100-microgram dose of the drug, called DT120, saw a 9.8-point drop on the , compared with a 4.7-point drop for those on placebo — a difference of 5.1 points. Definium said the result was similar to what was seen in its first late-stage anxiety study.
The company said patients in the latest trial experienced changes in their anxiety symptoms as early as the second day after dosing, in contrast to traditional antidepressants, whose effects typically take weeks to appear.
Definium is among the first wave of biotech companies nearing regulatory approval for psychedelic therapies.
