Durston Gear Unveils World's Lightest Freestanding Tent

Durston Gear has launched the X-Dome Pro 1+, claiming it to be the world's lightest freestanding double-wall tent, weighing only 1.7 lbs.

Durston Gear has introduced the X-Dome Pro 1+, a freestanding tent that the company claims to be the world's lightest in its category. Weighing in at just 1.7 lbs (780 grams), the tent is designed for ultralight backpacking and bikepacking enthusiasts.

The X-Dome Pro 1+ achieves its lightweight status through the use of Dyneema Composite Fabric, a material known for its strength and lightness. Dyneema is an ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene that offers robust strength and fast-drying waterproofing, while being half the weight of other ultralight tent fabrics.

The tent's design includes a double-wall construction, which helps improve ventilation and reduce interior condensation. It features a flexible setup, allowing users to pitch the fly and inner tent separately or together, depending on weather conditions. The tent also includes a generous vestibule for gear storage.

Durston Gear's use of Easton carbon fiber poles and lightweight YKK zippers further reduces the tent's weight. Despite its lightweight design, the X-Dome Pro 1+ maintains the same dimensions as its predecessor, the X-Dome 1+, providing ample space for one person and their gear.

The X-Dome Pro 1+ is priced at $849 and has already sold out shortly after its launch. The tent's compact design, measuring 19 x 4.5 inches when packed, makes it an attractive option for those looking to explore remote areas with minimal weight.
