IIT Patna Incubation Centre Launches BioNEST Biotech Facility
The Incubation Centre at IIT Patna has inaugurated a BIRAC-funded BioNEST facility for biotechnology and healthcare startups, alongside new memorandums of understanding with NIPER Hajipur and ICMR-RMNIHR Patna.
The Incubation Centre at IIT Patna, or IC IIT Patna, has inaugurated its Facility, aimed at supporting biotechnology, life sciences and healthcare innovation in Bihar. The facility was established with financial assistance from BIRAC, a Government of India funding body under the Department of Biotechnology, and is designed to give startups, researchers and innovators access to modern laboratory infrastructure, scientific equipment and technical guidance.
The inauguration included the signing and exchange of strategic memorandums of understanding between IC IIT Patna and two institutions: the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur, and ICMR-RMNIHR Patna. The partnerships are intended to facilitate collaboration in biotechnology, healthcare research and technology development, and to create opportunities for joint research linking academia, industry and emerging technology ventures.
The BioNEST facility brings together life-science laboratory infrastructure and scientific equipment with technical and scientific guidance, supporting research, prototyping, technology validation and startup activities. It is focused on biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, medical technology and deep tech, with the stated aim of strengthening the biotechnology and bioeconomy ecosystem in Bihar and eastern India.
The move builds on earlier efforts by the IIT Patna Innovation Centre, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital in Bihta to advance biomedical research and healthcare technology development, combining the Innovation Centre's startup ecosystem with the hospital's clinical infrastructure and research capabilities.
