ISRO to Launch EOS-05, India's First Geosynchronous Imaging Satellite, on September 4
ISRO will launch its Earth observation satellite EOS-05 aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket in the early hours of September 4 from Sriharikota, chairman V. Narayanan announced.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its Earth observation satellite EOS-05 in the early hours of September 4, ISRO chairman V. Narayanan announced. The satellite is set to lift off at 2:55 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, on India's east coast.
EOS-05 will fly aboard the GSLV-F17, the 19th flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), launching from the centre's Second Launch Pad. The rocket will place EOS-05 into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit, or , an intermediate orbit from which the satellite will later move to its final position.
Narayanan called EOS-05 a state-of-the-art Earth observation satellite and said it is India's first-ever imaging satellite to be placed in a , a high orbit in which a satellite stays fixed over the same point on Earth.
He said the mission will strengthen India's Earth observation capability and improve its Earth observation services. He added that all preparations for the launch at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre have been completed.
