Pennsylvania Reports Third Measles-Related Death Amid Ongoing Outbreak
A 40-year-old woman has died from measles-related illness in Pennsylvania, the third such death recorded in the state during a large ongoing outbreak.
A 40-year-old woman died in Pennsylvania on Saturday from a -related illness, becoming the third measles-related death recorded in the state in recent weeks, according to Jefferson County coroner Greg Furlong.
"This is a heartbreaking loss for the family and an unfortunate reminder that measles can be a serious and potentially life-threatening disease," Furlong said in a statement.
Pennsylvania is in the midst of a large measles outbreak, with 676 cases recorded as of Friday. The two earlier deaths linked to the outbreak were in infants.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not yet formally classified either of the two infant deaths as measles-related.
